Commissioning Uncovers Installation & Design Errors at a Wastewater Plant
Technical Advisory · Commissioning · Wastewater Treatment
Commissioning of 3× AUMA SA 10.2 actuators with AC 01.2 intelligent controls, mounted on sluice gates at a newly constructed section of a major municipal wastewater treatment plant.
What started as a routine commissioning visit revealed two issues the installing contractor had not identified. The sluice gates were overflow-type, meaning the actuator rotation direction needed to be reversed — something the contractor had not accounted for in the installation specification. During configuration, our engineers also identified a design error in the shaft construction itself, requiring a second site visit after the contractor completed structural corrections to apply new actuator settings.
Scope of Work
- Commissioning of 3× SA 10.2 multi-turn actuators with AC 01.2 intelligent controls on sluice gates
- Identification of incorrect gate type assumption — rotation direction reversal to match overflow-type sluice operation
- Identification of shaft design error requiring structural correction by the contractor
- Return visit for full reconfiguration of end-position limits and torque settings after structural rework
Commissioning is more than powering on and setting limits. On-site engineers with deep product knowledge routinely catch installation and design errors that would otherwise go unnoticed until equipment failure — turning a standard service call into preventive intervention.
