Damper Replacement & Actuator Setup at a Copper Smelter

Supply · Pre-Assembly · Metals & Smelting

Replacement of 8 flue gas dampers on the exhaust system of a major European copper smelter — including supply of new damper assemblies, actuator mounting, configuration, and preparation for on-site installation.

The existing dampers had deteriorated significantly under continuous exposure to high-temperature flue gases in the smelting process. Our scope covered the full replacement set across three nominal sizes — 4× DN2000, 3× DN1600, and 1× DN1000 — with electric actuators mounted and configured at our facility prior to delivery, minimising the client’s on-site downtime during installation.

Scope of Work

  1. Supply of 8 replacement dampers — 4× DN2000, 3× DN1600, 1× DN1000
  2. Electric actuator mounting and configuration at our service facility
  3. End-position limit and torque setting for each actuator-damper assembly
  4. Full pre-assembly and testing prior to dispatch — ready for direct on-site installation

Pre-assembling and configuring actuators at our own facility before delivery reduces on-site installation time and eliminates the risk of commissioning issues during a planned shutdown — critical in continuous-process industries where every hour of downtime carries significant cost.
